Lock Repair & Replacement Service
📍 Borehamwood & Surrounding Areas
A stiff, jammed or damaged lock is more than just an inconvenience — it's a sign that your security may be compromised. I'm Chris from Moore Secure Locksmiths and I carry out lock repairs and replacements across Borehamwood and the surrounding Hertfordshire area. In most cases I can repair on the spot, saving you the cost of a full replacement. Where a new lock is needed, I'll supply and fit the right one for your door and your budget.
No call-out fee. Honest advice. Sorted the same day in most cases.
Lock Repairs
Before replacing anything, I'll always try to repair first. A lot of locks that feel stiff, difficult to turn or unreliable simply need cleaning, lubricating or a minor mechanical adjustment. It's a quick fix that costs a fraction of a replacement — and if that's all it needs, that's all you'll pay for.
Lock Replacements
Sometimes a lock is beyond repair — worn out, damaged, or simply no longer fit for purpose. When that's the case, I'll replace it with a high-quality lock that suits your door type and meets your insurance requirements. I carry a range of British Standard and insurance-approved locks and can advise on the best option for your situation.
Anti-Snap Cylinders
Lock snapping is one of the most common methods of burglary in Hertfordshire. A standard euro cylinder can be snapped in seconds, giving a burglar immediate access to your home. Anti-snap cylinders are engineered to defeat this — even if the outer section is removed, the lock holds firm and the door stays shut. I fit anti-snap, anti-pick and anti-drill cylinders as standard and would strongly recommend them for any uPVC or composite front door.
British Standard Locks
If your locks aren't British Standard rated (BS3621), your home insurance may not fully cover you in the event of a break-in. I supply and fit BS3621 approved locks that are independently tested against picking, drilling and forced entry — giving you genuine security and keeping you compliant with your policy. Not sure if your current locks qualify? Give me a call and I'll check.
Multipoint Lock Repair & Replacement
Multipoint lock failures are one of the most common callouts I attend. If your door handle drops, the lock won't engage fully, or the mechanism is stiff or jammed, the multipoint system is usually the culprit. I carry a wide range of replacement mechanisms and can diagnose and fix most multipoint lock failures in a single visit.
New Lock Installations
Having a new door fitted? Want to add a deadlock to a back door that currently only has a latch? I install all types of locks from scratch — mortice deadlocks, rim locks, nightlatches and multipoint systems — making sure everything is correctly fitted and to the right security standard from day one.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you repair my lock without replacing it?
In many cases, yes. A lot of lock problems come down to wear, dirt or minor mechanical issues that can be fixed quickly and cheaply. I'll always assess the lock first and give you an honest recommendation.
What is a British Standard lock and do I need one?
British Standard locks (BS3621) are independently tested and certified to resist common attack methods. Many home insurance policies require them on external doors — so if yours doesn't have them, you may not be fully covered. I can advise and fit them quickly.
What's the difference between a cylinder and a lock?
The cylinder is the barrel that your key turns — it sits inside the lock body. In many cases, only the cylinder needs replacing rather than the full lock, which keeps the cost down. I'll always tell you which option is appropriate.
Do you carry replacement locks with you?
Yes — I carry a wide range of cylinders, British Standard locks and multipoint mechanisms in my van, so most jobs can be completed in a single visit without needing to order parts.
